The polls have closed and votes begin to be counted in the first election in the UK since the start of the coronavirus pandemic

Millions of votes have been cast in what is the biggest set of elections outside a general election for 50 years.

Across the country, the results will have an impact on the lives of millions and possibly the future of the United Kingdom.
