TUCKER Carlson has mocked “Sun King” Dr Anthony Fauci after the top doctor claimed that he cannot be criticized over the Wuhan lab-leak theory.

Fauci has received a barrage of criticism from Republicans after leaked emails show that over $826,000 in US research funding went to the lab at the center of the Covid lab-leak claim.

Fauci branded the attacks on him as ‘attacks on science’

Fox News host Tucker mocked Fauci after the health expert branded criticism targeted at him as “attacks on science”.

He alleged remarks Fauci said in public were different from comments made in private.

On the Senate floor, the health expert denied any US cash went towards “gain of function” research – a practice that involves taking a virus and making it either more transmissible or pathogenic.

But he later admitted that he couldn’t be certain that scientists at the lab kept their word and avoided using US funding to conduct so-called “gain-of-function” research.

Mocking Fauci, Tucker said: “When you attack me, you attack science. I am science says the Sun King Tony Fauci – our own Louis XIV.”

The Wuhan Institute of Virology is at the center of the Covid lab leak theory

The doc has drastically altered his stance on the origins of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Fauci told National Geographic last May that he thought the virus was naturally occurring and said there was “no evidence” that the bug originated in a Chinese laboratory.

Yet, last month he said the lab leak theory “may have weight” and couldn’t be ruled out.

The health expert also said that he was “not convinced” that the virus is naturally occurring.

The stinging criticism comes after Scott Gottlieb, former head of the Food and Drugs Administration, claimed Fauci briefed health experts in Europe last spring that Covid could’ve originated in a lab before shutting the argument down.

Gottlieb told CBS: “I think early on when they looked at the strain, they had suspicions.

“And it takes time to do that analysis and that dispelled some of those suspicions.”

Tucker previously accused Fauci and the US Government of covering up the origins of Covid-19.

He said: “The whole thing was a fraud and yet it worked.

“These are Americans working to hide the truth of the origin of Covid-19 from a country that’s been destroyed by [it]. The lab leak theory, it turns out, was never crazy.”

The Fox News host said anyone who believed Covid escaped from a Wuhan lab early on in the pandemic was ostracized.

He referred to a report published by Vanity Fair about the origins of the virus by reporting on what scientists and researchers said as the pandemic unfolded last year.

He branded the publication as a “celebrity suck-up magazine”.

The commentator said: “Some within the U.S. government helped them cover it up. They knew all of this was going on,” Carlson said. “But they buried the truth too. Because their interests were aligned with the interest of the Chinese government.”

More than 3,000 pages of Fauci‘s emails were obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and published by Buzzfeed.

Emails revealed that Fauci had been told about the laboratory theory and dismissed a warning about China’s Covid “cover-up” because it was “too long” for him to read.

Senator Rand Paul and congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene were among Republicans calling for Fauci to be dismissed after the bombshell emails were published.

President Biden announced a review of the lab-leak theory after allegedly shutting down a previous probe into its origins.

Intelligence experts will report back to the president within a 90 day timeframe.

The lab leak theory was often pushed by former president Donald Trump

They will be investigating whether the virus jumped from an animal host to humans or whether it was accidentally released from a lab in the Chinese city.

The lab-leak theory has become increasingly mainstream – months after it was previously condemned as a fringe conspiracy.

It was often pushed by former president Donald Trump who did not think the pandemic erupted from human contact with an infected animal.

A Wall Street Journal report alleged that three staffers at the lab had to be hospitalized in November 2019 – weeks before China disclosed the outbreak to the world.

It led to renewed calls for a broader probe into whether Covid-19 could have escaped from a lab in Wuhan, where the pandemic is widely believed to have begun.

China and the lab have always denied allegations of a possible leak.
