Dave Chappelle lights up a cigarette on SNL

Chappelle hosted SNL last when Trump was declared the winner of the 2016 election, and this time he hosted as the result was declared for Joe Biden.

He joked he doesn’t understand why “poor white people” don’t like wearing masks – drawing comparisons with the Ku Klux Klan.

“What is the problem? Wear masks at the Klan rally, wear it to Walmart too,” Chappelle said.

“Wear your Klan hood at Walmart so we can all feel safe.”

He opened his monologue as he lit a cigarette on stage and declared it was a “pretty incredible day” as Trump looks set to lose the White House.

The comedian claimed a pal in London had called him and said “the world feels like a safer place now that America has a new president”.

He said: “I said, ‘that’s great, but America doesn’t.’ Do you guys remember what life was like before Covid?

“A mass shooting every week. Anyone remember that? Thank god for Covid. Someone had to lock these murderous whites up, keep them in the house.”

Chappelle then went on to roast the President over his coronavirus diagnosis, saying “they said everything about it on the news”

“You know what they didn’t say? That it was hilarious. It was hilarious,” he went on.

Dave Chappelle returned to Saturday Night Live

Dave Chappelle’s routine was considered crass by some

Chappelle said: “Trump getting coronavirus was like when Freddie Mercury got AIDS. Nobody was like, ‘how did he get it?’.”

“This guy’s running around like the outbreak monkey. Looked like a 1970s penis, raw dogging. Raw dogging Earth.”

He also suggested the only reason the President survived was because of his “good health care plan” – and also mocked Trump ally Chris Christie.

“Meanwhile, Chris Christie’s fat a** is in the ICU, fighting for his life. Chris Christie got all the symptoms. Everything coronavirus likes to eat, that’s what’s in Chris Christie’s body,” he said.

“Fat, check. Asthma, check. Diabetes, check. Coronavirus like, mmm-mmm! Herman Cain’s black a** has been dead for two weeks. Where’s his secret serum?

“Think about that. For four years. What kind of man does that? What kind of man makes sure he’s okay while his friends fight for their lives and die? A white man.”

Chappelle’s fiery routine split fans of the show with some saying it was hilarious, while others blasted it as being in poor taste.

One fan said: “I’m white, and I mean, only Chapelle can deliver this message in such a plainly honest way.”

Another viewer added: “Dave Chappelle is probably the only comedian who can call a crowd of Caucasians ‘murderous whites’ and get this type of laughter.”

Others said “only the truth hurts” and “oh my god, Dave that’s the best ever”.

Critics of the routine however were less than impressed, and one said: “Fairly certain most poor white people are not white supremacists.

“I’m sure some of them voted for Biden and Trump. Not very nice to group them into something so vile.”

Another added: “I’m white, living pay check to pay check. I wear a mask I’m not kkk I deplore them. This is a joke I realize, but a racist joke.”

And another wrote: “What’s even funnier is that celebrities don’t speak for working class people.”

Jim Carrey, Alec Baldwin and Maya Rudolph reprised their roles as Trump, Biden and Harris
Jim Carrey brings back Ace Ventura to taunt Trump

SNL aired just 12 hours after all major networks declared Biden the winner of the 2020 election, despite Trump continuing to insist “I WON”.

Biden addressed the nation as he called for unity and urged Republican voters to get behind him as an “American president”.

Meanwhile, Trump has promised he is preparing legal challenges as he has repeatedly claimed the vote was rigged against him and offered no evidence.

The episode was was delayed by the Clemson-Notre Dame game, which ran into double overtime.

Jim Carrey reprised his role as Joe Biden, and Alec Baldwin played Donald Trump for a skit in which the Democrat taunted Trump as a “loser” after morphing into Ace Venture.

On Twitter, Baldwin said: “I don’t believe I’ve ever been this overjoyed to lose a job before.”

Maya Rudolph also reprised her role as Kamala Harris, with the show’s wardrobe department quickly preparing her a look that matched Kamala’s from her victory speech.

However, despite his brutal routine, Chappelle struck up a conciliatory tone as he urged people it is “good to be a humble winner” in his opening monologue.

He said: “Remember, when I was here four years ago, remember how bad that felt?

“Remember that half the country right now still feels that way. Please remember that.”

“Remember, that for the first time in the history of America, the life expectancy of white people is dropping because of heroin, because of suicide. “

He added: “All these white people out there feel that anguish, that pain, that mad, because they think nobody cares and maybe they don’t. Let me tell you something, know how that feels.”

“If you’re a police officer and every time you put your uniform on, you feel like you’ve got a target on your back.

“Oh, man, believe me, I know how that feels. Everyone knows how that feels. But here’s the difference between me and you.

“You guys hate each other for that and I don’t hate anybody. I just hate that feeling. That’s what I fight through. That’s what I suggest you fight through

“You gotta find a way to live your life, you gotta find a way to forgive each other.”
